Private company completes first Camp Fire debris cleanup project

Walberg Inc. in Corning, Tehama County.

Walberg Inc. became one of the first private contractors to clean-up a Camp Fire debris site on Wednesday, after 11 days spent applying for permits, with Butte County Public Health.

The site is a private, Chico property just off of Skyway.

Jaimie Walberg, president of Walberg Inc., had a message for people going through the clean-up process.

"You have options... We're not the only demolition contractor in the Northstate. There's plenty of work for everybody," Walberg said.

Walberg urged fire survivors to reach out to local contractors, to get a free price estimate for their services. Her company allows clients to keep the money covered by their insurance and put it toward reconstruction.

She said if insurance can't match a contractor's price estimate, then it's more economical to go with Cal OES, because the state program will take whatever the insurance pays.

That leaves the client with no out-of-pocket costs.
