Suspect identified in suspected homicide in Tehama County
RED BLUFF, Calif. —
The Tehama County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspected homicide that took place several miles outside of Red Bluff, on Friday, April 20.
According to officials, they received a call about the suspected homicide that took place in the area of Urban Lane, about seven miles west of Red Bluff, around 11:30 a.m.
On Monday, the Sheriff's Office named Jacob Daniel Oropeza, 33, of Red Bluff, as the suspect. He was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder on Friday.
The Sheriff's Office also identified the victim as Michael Paul Jones, 55, of Red Bluff. According to the press release, the victim and suspect were neighbors.
On Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office released more information about this case saying prior to this incident, Oropeza was at Jones' home when an altercation happened.
Officials said during the altercation, Jones was allegedly stabbed multiple times by Oropeza. Officials added the knife, which belonged to Oropeza, was later found at his home.
An autopsy on Jones was completed on Monday and it was determined Jones died of multiple stab wounds.
Officials said this incident is still under investigation but did say there is no question Oropeza is the only suspect.
