EPD: Man arrested for throwing gasoline on porch of home, lighting it on fire
EUREKA, Calif. —
A Eureka man was arrested Wednesday night for throwing gasoline onto the porch of a home and lighting it on fire, according to the Eureka Police Dept. (EPD).
On Jan. 9 at about 10:40 p.m., Humboldt Bay Fire and the EPD responded to the home on Summer Street after getting the report of a porch fire. Officials said a resident was able to extinguish most of the fire before it spread.
A witness described seeing a man throw gas on the porch and light it on fire before walking away on foot, police said. During the investigation, enough information was obtained to identify and locate the suspect, 34-year-old Asika Nicks, according to the EPD.
Officers found Nicks at his apartment on W. Del Norte Street and arrested him for arson and violating probation, according to the EPD.
Anyone with information or surveillance is asked to call the EPD at 707-441-4060.
