FORTUNA, Calif. — Fortuna residents reported discolored water coming out of taps Friday. According to the city, a new booster pump introduced sediment into the water system that is not toxic.
"This sediment, while having an objectionable color, is only an aesthetic issue and does not pose a threat to public health," the city said in a press release.
On Thursday, Jan. 10 a new booster pump was installed at the city's well site on Eel River Drive, according to city officials. Utility crews will flush water mains throughout Fortuna during the day Friday to try and restore water clarity.
"If anyone is still experiencing colored water issues, please let your tap run for a few minutes until that water is clear and that should resolve the issue," the city said. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and we will work diligently to resolve the problem."
Residents that reported discolored water have said after running their taps continuously for hours their water is now running clear.
