A Ferndale woman stopped a would-be burglar from stealing from her home by holding the man at gunpoint until police could arrive.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 700 block of Poole Road in the county's jurisdiction of Ferndale for the report of a burglary in progress.

Through their investigation, the sheriff's office learned that a 74-year-old woman arrived home to the residence to find that the door was open and several items were out of place. The woman then reportedly found an unknown man, drew her personal gun, and held the suspect at gunpoint until the deputies arrived.
