HCSO: Wanted registered sex offender arrested on warrant, drug charges
GARBERVILLE, Calif. —
According to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), a registered sex offender wanted on a felony warrant was arrested in Garberville Monday morning on narcotics charges.
Deputies said 29-year-old Raymond Joseph Smith failed to register as a sex offender in Humboldt County, which he had been required to do by law, and also had a felony warrant out of Mendocino County for probation violation.
On Feb. 12 at about 10:20 a.m., deputies were conducting foot patrols in downtown Garberville, near the Johnston Quality Motel on Redwood Drive, when they observed suspicious activity, officials said. Deputies contacted Smith and soon learned of his criminal status, according to the HCSO.
Upon searching Smith's person, the HCSO said deputies found suspected methamphetamine packaged for sales. Deputies also said Smith was in possession of marijuana, concentrated cannabis and hypodermic needles.
According to officials, Smith was subsequently transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on the following charges:
· Violation of Sex Registration Requirements - PC 290.011
· Possession of Controlled Substance for Sales - H&S 11378
· Possession of Concentrated Cannabis - H&S 11357
· Mendocino County Warrant
