SAMOA, Calif. — Humboldt County has created a Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for a planned fish farm in the Samoa area that includes over 650-thousand square feet of solar panels.
The project is proposed to be built along the eastern border of Humboldt Bay and was proposed by Nordic Aquafarms California, LLC. Nordic Aquafarms says the project will provide sustainable seafood on the west coast in an environmentally friendly way.
According to the company, the project would create 150 new full-time jobs including engineers, biologists, administration staff, maintenance staff, and fish processing within the area. The company believes it will also allow redevelopment and infrastructure improvements that have the potential to catalyze future development on the Samoa Peninsula.
The Humboldt County Planning and Building Department will receive public comments on the DEIR through Feb. 18, 2022. To view the DEIR, click here.
