Man 'accidentally' shoots coworker in the leg while drinking at a Eureka hotel

According to the Eureka Police Department (EPD), a man was accidentally shot in the leg in a Eureka hotel room Wednesday evening.

On Jan. 10 around 9:30 p.m., the EPD along with Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance responded to a hotel room at the Best Western on W. 5th Street for the report of a male that had been shot in the leg, according to the EPD.

Police said the man received a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

"Based on the investigation and statements, it appears that out-of-the-area contractors were drinking in their room when they began manipulating several firearms," The EPD said in a press release on Thursday. They added that one of the men in the hotel room accidentally pulled the trigger of one of the guns, shooting his coworker in the leg.

The EPD said the involved parties were in legal possession of the firearms and that the shooter is a California Concealed Weapons (CCW) holder.
