UKIAH, Calif. — A kayaker discovered the body of a Laytonville man missing since June in a lake Monday, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.
On July 15 a kayaker called police to report finding a body floating in Lake Mendocino near the Coyote Valley Control Tower. Officials recovered the body and identified the person as 40-year-old Vincent Soto, according to the MCSO.
Officials have been searching for Soto since June 11, when his father was found dead floating in the lake, according to the sheriff's office. Family members told investigators 62-year-old Carlos Soto and Vincent Soto had gone out fishing that day. Their boat was recovered on the lake with no one aboard, and each man's wallet and identification were found in the boat.
Officials said family members were waiting at the dock when Vincent Soto's body was found, and they said a prayer over him.
An autopsy on Vincent Soto is scheduled for July 16.
