TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. — The Trinity County Office of Emergency Services says the debris removal process for property impacted by the Monument Fire will begin later this month.
In a press release, the Trinity OES says it recently requested the help of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control to assist the county and homeowners with debris removal
Officials say the debris removal will consist of two phases. The first involves the removal of household hazardous waste starting on Sept. 14. The second phase includes the removal of remaining burn debris in cooperation with property owners and other state agencies. The start date for phase two is unknown.
Trinity OES says to leave all household hazardous waste materials in place. Such materials include unused or leftover products that contain toxic chemicals. Products labeled "caution, warning, danger, poison, toxic, flammable, or corrosive are considered hazardous.
Following phase one, Trinity OES says the county will contact affected property owners to coordinate debris removal. County and state workers will not enter a property without the express written consent of any property owner.
Trinity OES says more information about the debris removal process will be available shortly.
