An armed customer at a Subway sandwich shop in Ukiah shot a man multiple times who was robbing the store Wednesday, according to the Ukiah Police Dept.

On Dec. 12 at around 7:15 p.m. officers got a report of shots fired at the Subway at 130 N. Orchard Ave. When they arrived, officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in front of Ross and called paramedics. He was flown to an out-of-county hospital, according to police.

Witnesses told police the injured man had just robbed the Subway with a gun, according to the UPD. Police said they learned that during the robbery, an armed bystander with a valid concealed carry weapons permit shot his gun in fear of his safety and the safety of other citizens.

The customer who shot his gun was also one of the people who reported the robbery. Police are still investigating this incident. No word on the condition of the would-be-robber.
