Warriors win game one of NBA Finals in OT

Warriors versus Cavaliers

Stephen Curry scored 29 points and the Golden State Warriors capitalized on a Cavaliers blunder that sent the game into overtime, withstanding a brilliant 51-point performance by LeBron James to beat Cleveland 124-114 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.

The game nearly over, James jawed with both Curry and Klay Thompson, then Tristan Thompson and Draymond Green tangled moments later and made contact. After replay review, Tristan Thompson received a Flagrant 2 foul and ejection with 2.6 seconds left.

James was in utter disbelief as regulation ended in stunning fashion: George Hill made the first of two free throws with 4.7 seconds left after being fouled by Klay Thompson, then J.R. Smith secured the rebound and dribbled back toward halfcourt, apparently thinking the Cavs had a lead.

The Warriors outscored Cleveland in overtime 20-10. In the closing seconds, a scuffle between the two teams led to the ejection of Tristan Thompson. Stephen Curry and LeBron James also had what appeared to be heated words as officials watched the replay with 2.6 seconds to play.

Kevin Durant made two free throws with 36.4 seconds to play in regulation to tie the game at 104-104.

On the ensuing possessions, James and Stephen Curry exchanged driving buckets, with Curry drawing the foul. His free throw gave the Warriors a 107-106 lead. George Hill made the first of his free throws to tie the game, but after his miss on the second attempt the Cavs failed to get off a good shot and the game went to overtime.

Game two will also be played in Oakland. The game will be televised live by ABC on KRCR News Channel 7 starting at 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
